I have no experience with hatching pied babies. I purchased eggs that could develop to be purple or purple pied. What I was wondering is can you tell when they hatch if they are a pied or do you have to wait for some feathers to grow? I know my blue silver when born was almost all buttery color with brown spots.

Yes if pied will be brown with yellow spots. If dark pied should see some white flight feathers. Do you know what the parents were.

I do not. All I know is the person who sent it to me wrote purple or purple pied on the egg.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone else had a purple chick with a white patch the top of its head only with no other white anywhere else? It is from a purple pied hen and a purple Male that was carrying white. The father had no white anywhere other than one tip of a train feather only. I have gotten silver pieds from them, purple white-eyeds and purple pieds and purples. I have never gotten one with a white patch on the top of its head before with no other white anywhere else on its body. Would this be a dark pied bird?
The unfortunate thing is I lost the male bird last month. I have a coming 3 year old purple pied that will take his place.
