does anyone have heated roosts and if so how did you do it. We have some heat tape we are thinking of using but not sure if it will be safe for the peafowl.

Hi jasa88 - yes, many people have heated roosts for their peas. There are several methods and various materials.

For some detailed instructions, visit the UPA website at www.peafowl.org
Click on Knowledge Base and select the articles.

Craig Hopkins also has a great article on his website. Go to www.HopkinsLivestock.com and click on Peafowl. Great photos.

Good luck, and hope to hear from you soon.

Heated roost...

I have several for my javas in the winter...I DO NOT USE HEAT TAPE... Do not like it. I think it is unreliable..I use instead, electric blackets..This gives more coverage and you can control the heat.. I use nice 6 inch across boards,,,use a single size and wrap it securely..I just put duck tape on the ends...Then I use an old sheet or cheapo material,,,whatever you have laying around and wrap that over the electric blacket..This is much evenier heat that is better controlled. I lost birds because the heat tape wasn't working properly and anyone who has Javas knows that this is no good. I have way fewer problems since I switched to heated blankets..and I control the amount of heat..I like this so much better. I hope this helps........Julie

Thank you for your quick replies. The blanket sounds like a good idea. I started going through old peafowl magizines and that was taking forever. This forum is so nice I think I learned more in the last week than I have in the nine years I'v had peafowl.
