When I visit a forum topic index page, I like to open the topics of interest in a new tab. Thus, when I finished with an index page, I have tabs open of all the topics that I'm interested it. When I finish using that topic, I close the tab. When I do that here, the original page changes to the topic as well as opening a tab with the topic in it. I don't know if that is just a setting on forum software and/or a preference by the site. I looked in my options to see if I can change that behavior but didn't find an option for it.

Is that an expected behavior or am I overlooking a setting?

(btw, I have not experienced this behavior at any of the other forums I visit.)

Thanks for your help,
Cal

I just tried it and it stayed on topic for me, seems to be working fine on my end, I didn't change any of the default settings for the site.

Thank you for checking on it, Joe. I wonder if I wasn't clear enough in describing the problem.

The problem is when I middle click or (cmd-click on apple) on a topic it opens in both a new tab and the current tab. This is a link to discussion at the phpBB forum about it: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1928885. The desired behavior is that a middle click opens the topic in a new tab.

I tested it on a Mac using Safari, Chrome, and Firefox and they all behaved the same (middle click opens the topic in the current tab and a new tab). When I visit the phpBB demo, middle click opens the topic in a new tab only (the desired behavior).

I will continue to search for a solution.

Thanks,
Cal

If your mouse has a scroll wheel, you can push it for a middle click.

I found another discussion of this issue: http://www.yeoldeinn.com/hqforum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=282 This site has the same issue with the middle click.

I'm not finding a solution. It is not a huge issue and I can work around it.

Thanks again,
Cal
