Some people have a pair, some people have several, and some have hundreds of peafowl. For the website and UPA to serve its membership better, knowing how many birds you have could be very important. Because we care for our birds a little differently depending on the sheer number, would you consider taking the poll below to let us know how many peafowl you keep? This would help the UPA tailor information, news and articles to the needs of its supporters. _________________ Be the change you want to see in the world. |

Hi feather
I have 7 spoiled birds. Did you record your answer on the poll? The statistics should be interesting.
Since I've already answered the poll, the ability to answer the poll again doesn't present itself. I'm hoping that with this many hits on the topic, people will record their numbers. Kat, once people have answered the poll, I'm assuming it won't record a second answer from the same registered user? _________________ Be the change you want to see in the world. |

purchasing in the future. _________________ UPA member

I only have a one pair of peafowl
- one spalding male, 20-25 years old
- one spalding silver pied female, 1 year old
we might be giving the spalding male back, and replacing him with a 3-5 year old India Blue/Black Shoulder/Spalding - his old family misses him.
And 400 birds? That's amazing. |

I don't think you have enough to keep you busy. you need to buy a few more.
And yes the male is a little old for that hen, but if you get a younger male he can handle about 3 to 4 hens. Then he would be happy.
Good luck

haha, i agree.
recently we returned the male peafowl who was 20-25 years old. he still didn't seem happy in his new home, and we figured that he would be much happier where he had grown up for his entire life.
today we bought a 3-4 year old india blue male. he's very beautiful, but I feel he's having trouble adjusting. him and the hen just keep pecking at eachother.
o well...
thank you all for the advice. |

He will adjust
it is called the pecking order. If you had put the male in a pen first, then add the hens it would be the other way around. Right now it is the hens pen until he gets established then it will be easier after she accepts him then she will share her space..

Ha ha - I'm still giggling. Last year Santa brought my husband a white male. But I bet Mrs. Claus gave him a talking to, as there might be a new hen or two on the list for this year! _________________ Be the change you want to see in the world. |

Hello
That is great Wayne. You sound like you are well on your way to being a peafowl farmer.
