Petrol here is SO expensive at the moment!! Its about £1.25 a litre which I think is about $2.50? My other half has been riding bikes for years and I when he did an offroad course I had a days lesson in how to ride a bike and loved it! Now I really want to get one! Well obviously I really want to pass my test first!!

Babypeas, you'll love it. I've been riding for 15 years and have a great bike. I'd like to know the criteria for your test. In the US, a course is set up with pylons. The applicant rides the course and must be able to stop in the marked places. The applicant needs to be physically able to right the bike if it falls on its side. We must also correctly answer questions about safety issues. That's all I can remember. Please tell us about your test, and GOOD LUCK!

Oh, and gas here is about $3.60 at the moment. It changes daily, which no one quite understands.

babypeas, congratulations! I also ride a motorcycle and a scooter, the scooter gets 80 miles to the gallon but only has a top speed of 45mph, I didn't take my bike out this year as the man would like to learn how to ride and keeps wrecking it! I bought it at a yard sale for $200.00 two years ago and it was all original with only 200 miles on it,( it's a 1976 honda twinstar) needless to say it now has a cracked pan cover and bent touring bars, was glad to hear your good news ! Babypeas, if it weren't for the fact that he actually wrecked my bike it would be funny! he always over throttles, one time it popped a wheelie and unseated him but he hung on to the handle bars and didn't let off of the gas so here he is in the yard hanging on to the bike, it's running around him in circles, I'm yelling at him to let off the throttle( and laughing my butt off) it still took him about two minutes to understand what I was saying! needless to say he denies it happened(ego) but the kids and I still chuckle about it, I'm looking at a yamaha katana I like the slimmer build for longer rides, I think as long as your comfortable with what your riding it doesn't matter what it is, a safe rider is a safe rider no matter what they ride. Happy touring! Suzy
