The chicks now all appear to be well. They are active, eating and their droppings seem to have become more solid . But they still droop their wings every once in a while . Is this normal behavior. And should it always suggest sickness even if they are responsive and alert?
I now have them only on probiotics. How long should I give them these?
Thanks very much for all your advice.
If you could just help me compile & list the dosage (in ml) of the treatments for various disease that you educated me on:
Coccidiosis- Amprolium - Dosage ?
Intestinal infection - Sulpha drug - Dosage ?
Blackhead- Metronidazole - Dosage ?
Deworming - Fenbendazole - Dosage ? |

this is great news, thanks for the update !
The drooping wings should improve with time unless they are possibly staying overheated?
I would keep up the probiotics for about a week and get them back on the med. starter also, if you haven't already.
Most of your med. doses can be found again at :
https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/medicine-chart
The Bactrim dose is not there that I can see but I go with 30mg/kg (25mg/kg bw sulphonamide + 5mg/kg bw trimethoprim) 2x a day for 7 days, as a rule.
If anyone out there disputes any of these dosages or can elaborate on them then by all means, feel free to do so.
This is what has woked for my birds. |

This is what I use:
Amprolium:
20% Powder - 1.5 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, then 1/3 teaspoon per gallon for 7 days
9.6% Liquid - 2 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, then 1/2 teaspoon per gallon for 7 days.
Sulpha drug - 50mg/kg twice a day
Metronidazole - for blackhead 50mg/kg once a day for five days
Fenbendazole - 50mg/kg for five days
Disclaimer: This is what I use. Always best to consult a vet. |
