Hi Everyone
I live in Northern Michigan and have 6 hens and 5 males. The males have been displaying like crazy for about 3 weeks now but not 1 egg yet. Is this normal? They started laying last year around the first of April. Could it be the weather? It's been colder than normal up here. ?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! _________________ 15 chickens, 13 peafowl, 4 red golden pheasant, 2 horses, 1 pony, 7 goats. 2 cats and 1 dog. Happy family. |

I would think it is the weather also. Mine were later this year as it has been a real PITA year for weather .. I would guess yours are laying now or will be soon.. connerhills |

Thanks Connerhills. I sure hope they start laying......nothing yet but it's been pretty cold still. Supposed to be in the 60's and 70's this week so maybe that will jump start them. I've seen them mate a couple of times so now I wait. _________________ 15 chickens, 13 peafowl, 4 red golden pheasant, 2 horses, 1 pony, 7 goats. 2 cats and 1 dog. Happy family. |

Some of my peahens began laying early in April. Something ate the first two eggs.
I had a chicken all ready to incubate eggs for me over a month before I had any
eggs. Then the hen quit and let eggs get cold when she finally got just three. Can NOT
put blame on chicken who is governed by hormones--it was her quitting time.
I now have NO chicken in the mood to set. A favorite old hen died this week. Am using the
Lyon TX-7 incubator that I found on the ground at dumpster (which works after much
tinkering and replacing missing parts) Two years ago I actually did get a few chicken eggs
to hatch with this incubator....but so far NO pea chicks from it but right now am trying
since I have nothing to lose. Some embryos did form and then die in first eggs.
Anyhow I do NOT really need any more peafowls. But I do not want snakes and possums
eating good eggs _________________ friendly poultry orthopedist |

Funny, I'm not sure our hen is laying yet either. She typically free ranges (sits on our house deck at night, on the rail!), so I've penned her up to see if she's laying and hiding, or just not laying yet. This is the first week that the weather hasn't fluctuated so much.... |

My purple hen laid the first egg last night!! Whewwww! I was beginning to worry. I put it in my incubator. _________________ 15 chickens, 13 peafowl, 4 red golden pheasant, 2 horses, 1 pony, 7 goats. 2 cats and 1 dog. Happy family. |

Hope your incubator is much better than mine.....and better than the incubator of a local
FORMER breeder of peafowls who spent seven hundred dollars on an incubator that
provided messed up peachicks for me to practice being a poultry orthopedist _________________ friendly poultry orthopedist |

Well, I've used it the last couple of years and it seems to work good. It's one of the GQF cabinet incubators. _________________ 15 chickens, 13 peafowl, 4 red golden pheasant, 2 horses, 1 pony, 7 goats. 2 cats and 1 dog. Happy family. |

The best incubators that I have ever had all wore feathers
but they lived in the past. Too bad that there is no such thing as a chicken that lives
forever _________________ friendly poultry orthopedist |
